Practicing Outside of Lessons

While taking Professional driving lessons with an F1 instructor it’s important that you have as much practice as possible on the road so why not ask a friend or relative if they can take you for more.

5 IMPORTANT TIPS

  • You must be supervised by someone at least 21 years old who holds a full EC/EEA licence for that type of car
  • Don’t have any passengers in the car apart from the one taking you out for extra tuition.
  • Your vehicle must display red L plates & they must conform to legal specifications and must clearly be visible to others from in front and behind
  • You must have a valid insurance certificate before driving the vehicle
  • Only have practice with someone if you both feel confident enough to go on the road.

The more practice you have on the road the better but please follow these rules:

  • Only have practice with someone if you both feel confident enough to go on the road.
  • Read the Highway Code and understand it before starting the practical side
  • Learner drivers must hold a valid provisional licence
  • You must have a valid insurance certificate before driving the vehicle
  • You must be supervised by someone at least 21 years old who holds a full EC/EEA licence for that type of car
  • Your vehicle must display red L plates
  • The L plates must conform to legal specifications and must clearly be visible to others from in front and behind
  • The L plates must be removed or covered when not being driven by a learner (except on driving school vehicles)
  • You must pass the theory test and the practical driving test before driving unaccompanied
  • Do not drive on the motorway, provisional licence holders are not permitted to go on these roads until they have passed there practical driving test.

5 HANDY HINTS

  • Turn theory practice into a quiz with friends/family. Re-educates them and helps you revise - bewares family rows!
  • Ask you instructor if he thinks you are ready to practice with a friend/family - go too early and it could knock your confidence back.
  • Make sure your mobile is switched off
  • Decide where to go and what you are doing BEFORE setting out, take care in selecting a suitable area.
  • Remember to practice what your instructor preaches - bad habits can be contagious
  • Please try and avoid schools during starting and finishing times.
  • Do not attempt to go onto higher speed limit roads if you are not confident enough to reach that speed limit.
  • Your F1 driving instructor has gone through thorough training to get you to be a safe driver so if someone takes you out other than an instructor try not to adopt there bad habits.
  • Don’t have any passengers in the car apart from the one taking you out for extra tuition.
